Recordings

This page has some representative recordings of my current (and some older) music projects. All recordings are in MP3 format

Mercier Bridge

I have used the name Mercier Bridge for all of my jazz ensembles since early 1992. Some of these recordings are quite old!

This first recording is with the vocalist Stephen Gale. It includes the "correct" way of ending this tune (in the minor rather than the usual wimp-out to the relative major!). The Brass instrument is a Cornet. Listen to the wonderful lip glisses at the start of the solo.

The next two recordings are with the (almost) original quartet, featuring the cool saxophone playing of Jenny Game. These tunes are live at the Royal Derby Hotel in Melbourne.

For newer Mercier Bridge recordings, see the links on the Unity Recital page

Improvisations

These examples are improvisations in concert. I pride myself in being able to create musical soundscapes on the fly that don't adhere to a specific style, or only adhere for such a short time. I am a postmodernist!

The first recording is from a duo concert with the Clarinetist Brigid Burke at the 1888 building at the University of Melbourne (you can hear the start of Brigid's improvisation at the end of this recording.

The second recording is from the Mercier Bridge concert at the Royal Derby in 1993. You can hear the authentic Melbourne Tram in the background in this performance. I used samples from this recording for my electroacoustic piece "etoiles".

The third, and newest recording is from the Jazzwinds concert on May 2, 2004. The opening brings to mind the Ravel Concerto for the Left Hand.

Classical performances

Although I have recorded several performances for commercial recording, only 1 is currently in print, Bright Tracks, chamber music of Brenton Broadstock.

There are, of course, a number of samples of my classical performances on the Unity Recital Series page. I also have included this live performance of Stuart Greenbaum's wonderful piano piece "...but I want the Harmonica". This recording is by the composer at the concert with Brigid Burke.
