Carl Honoré’s book “In Praise of Slow” introduced me to the idea of celebrating the idea of playing slow pieces, to allow the listeners time to appreciate what is going on in the composition and to have time to reflect what is going on in their own perceptions. I have also been pursuing my own idea of Acoustic Spaces – places for my music to exist, for listeners to be enveloped in the music and to take what they need from the space. Today’s concert will explore slow Acoustic Spaces, using composers from the Western Classical canon, as well as more contemporary Japanese composers.
